Happy winner of the 4th International A CAPPELLA Contest Leipzig: JuiceBox. from Hannover
They were more than happy, when Simon Carrington (chairman of the jury) said their name to be the winner of this year's contest. The six german singers of JuiceBox. won the 4th International A CAPPELLA Contest Leipzig. They happily received the wonderful Leipzig A CAPPELLA AWARD and the prize money of 2.000 euro, but also the inivitation to give an own and paid prize winner's concert within the 12th International Festival of Vocal Music "a cappella" (18th till 26th June 2011).
Two groups received the second prize and a prize money of 1.000 euro: Wortart Ensemble (Germany) and Voicebox (Sweden). The Russian women of Aquarelle achieved the third prize and 500 euro. For the first time, this year the audience was allowed to vote for their favourite. It was Wishful Singing from the Netherlands who received the Audience Award and gained 500 euro.

New: Audience Award 2010!
Within the 4th International A CAPPELLA Contest Leipzig 2010, an Audience Award will be given to one of the participating ensembles chosen by the audience for the first time. The prize carries a value of 500 euro. For voting, the audience receives a questionnaire on the first competitions day, 20th May 2010, at the entrance of the Mendelssohn-Hall. Please listen to all ensembles on both days and make one cross for your favourite on the second competition day, 21st May 2010. Please leave your questionnaire at the end of the second day in the box at the exit. To make sure the voting for the Audience Award-winner will be as fair as possible, we ask for the voting of those listeners who visited the contest on both days and listened to all groups.
The announcement of the Audience Award's winner will be together with the announcement of the AWARD-winner 2010 as well as the ensembles coming second and third within the concert of Ommm, 21st May at Schaubühne Lindenfels. Now it's your turn – vote for your favourite!

Ommm from France wins the 3rd International A CAPPELLA Contest Leipzig
The French ensemble Ommm from Fontainebleau was able to stand up to an international starting field
within the 3rd International A CAPPELLA Contest Leipzig last week. The five vocalists convinced the jury
through their manifold programme which accomplished to include jazz just the same as world music and trip-hop.
The high-level jury, headed by Bob Chilcott – former member of the King’s Singers – complimented the young singers
especially on the technical performance of their self-composed music as well as on their extraordinary stage presence
which also completely enthused the audience of the festival’s closing concert. Besides the Leipzig A CAPPELLA AWARD
2009 and the prize-money of 2000 euro, the group will receive an invitation to perform its paid prize-winner’s concert
during next year’s 11th International Festival of Vocal Music “a cappella” (15th to 22nd May 2010). The Hungarian ensemble
Jazzation from Budapest achieved the second prize and 1000 euro prize-money and will also be appearing with an own
prize-winner’s concert at the next festival. The six girls of the group Chickpeas from Markkleeberg (Germany)
received 3rd prize and 500 euro prize-money.

The award-winner 2008: Vocado from Sweden
The second International A CAPPELLA Contest Leipzig in Germany displayed anew the great variety
of promising young vocal groups from all over Europe. Participants, public and jury experienced
two multifaceted and exciting competition days within the 9th A CAPPELLA Festival Leipzig.
Vocado from Avesta/Sweden finally stood up to the other nine competitors and won the Leipzig
A CAPPELLA AWARD 2008. The ensemble receives 2.000 euro prize-money and will enrich the 10th
A CAPPELLA Festival Leipzig (8th to 16th May 2009) with an own prize-winner’s concert.
The second prize of the competition went to the group muSix from Berlin (1.000 euro prize-money).
The jury’s decisions weren’t easy, so the third prize was given out twice: Music Project Altmark
West as well as Total Vokal, both from Germany, each received 500 euro prize-money.
The special prize contributed by the finish Vaasa Choirfestival, given out independently from
the jury’s decision, also went to Vocado.

Special prize contributed by the Vaasa Choirfestival from Finland
The International A CAPPELLA Contest Leipzig cooperates with the Vaasa Choirfestival this year:
The finish festival contributes a special prize for outstanding performance and will invite one of
the participating vocal groups to its festival in the following year. The international Vaasa Choirfestival
is yearly held for five days at the weekend of Ascension Day with more than 100 concerts taking place.
Ensembles like the King’s Singers, the Real Group and the Swingle Singers already performed at the festival.
The selection of the group to which the special prize is going to be contributed will be made by the finish
festival producer Erkki Mendelin and the artistic director Martti Tiainen.

Sound Affaire wins the 1st Leipzig A CAPPELLA AWARD
The vocal ensemble Sound Affaire from the Bavarian town Wolfratshausen convinced the
jury with its wide repertoire and received the 1st Leipzig A CAPPELLA AWARD.
The second place went to Klangbezirk (Berlin/Leipzig/Cologne/Stuttgart),
the women’s quintet ensemble divinas from Leipzig was awarded the third price of the competition.
Sound Affaire as well as Klangbezirk will appear again at the A CAPPELLA festival in Leipzig in
May 2008 with their own prize-winner’s concerts.
